Charity Non Exec Finance Director

Leveraging data skills and business acumEn to support and manage a charity’s finance function

I am a Non Executive Finance Director for a Charity overseeing approximately £200,000 annual turnover. I manage the finance function and provide reports and updates to the board of directors.

After stepping into this role with an interest in personal finance as background and following a short but steep learning curve, it became clear how well developed my wider business skills are, along with highlighting how data plays an integral part in book-keping, accounting and financial reporting. I have brought considerable improvements to the charity through this role.

My analysis of the financial data available highlighted that the charity was making assumptions about certain aspects of their financial health which were incorrect. Addressing this has This led to improved and focused reporting and monitoring of certain areas.

Navigating the impact of COVID also required an increased and targeted focus on monthly cash flow. Utilising the data already available through financial software the appropriate data points were identified and clear reporting was created to automatically provide up to date and accurate information to support business decisions made by the directors.

I found my data analysis skills and business acumen, when combined, provide the perfect skillset to step into a wide range of business areas and create instant impact.
